Video: New Scientific Visualization Out of Yale: From Conception to Birth

Alexander Tsiaras, chief of scientific visualization in the department of medicine at Yale University, uses micro-magnetic resonance imaging to visualize the development of the human body in the womb, from conception to birth.
In this 10-minute presentation to TED, he shows some samples:

For you formed my inward parts;

you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Wonderful are your works;

my soul knows it very well.

My frame was not hidden from you,

when I was being made in secret,

intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance;

in your book were written, every one of them,

the days that were formed for me,

when as yet there was none of them.

(Psalm 139:13-16 ESV)

20 Things a Husband Can Say to Defuse an Argument with His Wife

  | 0 comments
If, like me, you are striving to grow in grace as a godly husband then you will be helped by more counsel from Lou Priolo’s excellent book, The Complete Husband: A Practical Guide to Biblical Husbanding. Priolo writes: “Listed below are some transition sentences that may help you when you’re attempting to resolve conflicts with your wife. The list may be personalized according to the need of the moment (Eph 4:29).”
  1. “I really appreciate your concern about this.”
  2. “Thank you for being interested in this problem.”
  3. “I’m glad you are concerned about this.”
  4. “Am I hearing you correctly?”
  5. “Am I hearing you right? Is this what you are saying?”
  6. “Would you repeat that please?”
  7. “Could you repeat that in a different way?”
  8. “I see this is important to you; therefore, it is to me.”
  9. “Let me think about that for a minute.”
  10. “Thank you for taking time to share this with me.”
  11. “Do you have any suggestions as to what I could do to improve in this area?”
  12. “Did I hear you say it upsets you when I ______________. Thank you for telling me.”
  13. “Are you saying that you want me to discuss these kinds of issues with you before I make a decision?” (Be thankful!)
  14. “How could I do (have done) that differently?”
  15. “What, exactly, is it you see that I’m doing or saying wrong?”
  16. “I wasn’t clearly seeing that.”
  17. “Thank you for bringing that to my attention.”
  18. “I’m glad you pointed that out to me.”
  19. “When did that happen? I wasn’t aware of that.” (Be careful about the use of this statement; be sure that it is true before you use it!)
  20. “I see that’s important to you, so I’ll make it a point to be more aware of it in the future.”
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. – Proverbs 15:1

The Year in Photos 2011 (from The Atlantic Blog)

The excellent Atlantic Photo blog has a collection in 3 parts of photos from the world this year including the Tsunami, the Arab Spring in Egypt, Libya; the various floods, and a lot more. It's really interesting to look through them and see what's been happening in the last year. There are around 40 photos in each part and they're all well worth a look.

Great Awakenings in
American History Series
mp3 audio
This special series was delivered at Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena, California in January of 1976. In this series Dr. Orr used a wonderful format - telling the story of revival from history, then teaching from God's Word on topics relevant to revival. These messages are listed in the order in which they were presented.

A Week with Dr. J. Edwin Orrmp3 audio
This series was delivered by Dr. Orr in February of 1983 at Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church. It was a series that he himself regarded as a good summary of his teaching and ministry. On most evenings Dr. Orr began with a lecture on the history of revival, then concluded with a message on the Biblical understanding and preparation for revival. Thanks to the family of Dr. Orr for these tapes.

Church History Lectures (David Guzik)

David Guzik gives 20 lectures on church history going from the Apostolic period right through the reformation in some detail then the last 4 lectures cover the period after that. He did a second series covering roughly the same material that you can see below this one.

Lectures on Christian History
By David Guzik

One of Pastor David Guzik's interests is the history of Christianity. It often isn't a pretty picture, but there is much to be learned from seeing how God worked and man responded through the history of the church.

This first series was presented at a special week-long seminar in Austria, in May 2007. I don't know if it is better or worse than my previous series (the Whiteboard talks found below).
